Biog

Jim Loring is a documentary photographer, educator and speaker whose work explores how people live, adapt and make meaning in times of change.

At the heart of his practice is attention to place, context and lived experience. His photography has grown out of time spent listening and observing, rather than imposing conclusions. This has shaped a longstanding interest in how we come to see others, ourselves and the world around us.

Jim has worked internationally as a photojournalist and documentary photographer, completing more than 70 humanitarian assignments worldwide. Early in his career, documenting the impact of Nicolae Ceaușescu's resettlement policy in Romania proved formative, leading to long-term collaborations with humanitarian organisations and communities navigating profound social and cultural change.

British by birth, Jim now works between the UK and the USA, continuing to develop documentary projects, teach and mentor photographers, and contribute to wider conversations about photography and the changing visual landscape.

Jim's work is ultimately about how we see, how images shape our understanding of the world, and how that understanding influences the way we act.
