CACC Rosebowl Day: Amanda Wright reports

On Sunday 27th April the CACC held Rosebowl Day in Amersham which included the phone competition and separate stars competition, where stars awarded throughout the Rosebowl Competition battled it out for best image.

Our judge for the Rosebowl Stars was David Steele from Cambridge.

All 12 clubs entered at least one starred image with 33 in total.

EHHPS had 3 entries: Abandoned Dreams and Kasbah Encounter by John Clare and Nature's Awe by Jenny Fenton but unfortunately we didn't win any awards. The winner was Kingfisher With Catch by Dave Atkinson from Oxford; the three Highly Commendeds can be found on the CACC website

David Steele also pre judged the 97 phone images but only critiqued the top scorers on the day. Ealing's Building and Building by Nilhou Darvish scored very well with 18 and Kris Mason’s image Cold Cabin was also mentioned with a score of 16. Overall scores were very low with only one 20 and six 19's out of all 97 images.  Full scores can be found on the CACC website.

After lunch and the CACC AGM the afternoon Rosebowl Final was judged by David Smith from Woking.

Only 11 of the 12 eligible clubs entered, with 8 images each and again scoring was reasonably low in my view. Ealing's top score was 18 achieved by John Clare with Kasbah Encounter but in the end we didn't do too well, finishing off in 9th position with 129 points.

  • 1st was Watford with 140

  • 2nd Amersham with 139

  • = 3rd were Imagez and Croxley with 137

You can see from this just how close the scores were. There were six 20's awarded in total and details of all final scores can be found on the CACC website.

In summary the day was fairly disappointing, not just from EHHPS' results perspective, but also in terms of attendees. I appreciate it was a lovely sunny day as predicted so this might have had something to do with it, but in truth by the time you discounted the CACC committee members and Club External Competition Secretaries, there really was quite a low turnout.

On the upside our own Paul Mason will be hosting next year as he has now officially taken over the CACC Chair position from Kathy Chantler.
